Last summer the current plague was making me think about the previous one, and I tried to find films of Marlon Riggs, that I remember capturing that era. But all I found was a second-hand VHS of “Tongues untied”. Now Criterion Channel is streaming all (I think) of Riggs’s movies. Going back to those days is painful, but tonic. They’re not just historic artifacts. In the tradition of epic scrapbook poems like “Paterson” and “Maximus”. It’s possible to not be crushed.
